Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is your refund policy?

A: We offer refunds minus the credit card transaction fees (~3%) for sauna appointments that are cancelled or changed (for any reason) more than 24 hours in advance. If you would like to cancel or reschedule your appointment you may do so up to 24 hours in advance via your original email confirmation - click on the black “change / cancel” button and follow the prompts to either cancel or select a new session time from the available options. Once you complete the steps the appointment will immediately show as available in our reservation system. Cancellation requests made via email or phone are not guaranteed a refund as these channels do not automatically release the session for someone else to book. Please cancel via the email confirmation 24+ hours in advance as described above to ensure that you will get a refund. When you make a reservation you are paying for a session for a specific 90 minute window of time that no one else can then book. There are no refunds or credits for appointments that are cancelled after the cutoff.

Q: What should I wear?

A: Swimsuits or athletic attire are required at Sisu + Löyly. Thank you in advance for respecting this policy. We understand that it is perfectly normal to sauna naked in many cultures. Given our close proximity to tourist attractions and our family home and the large windows in the sauna, our sauna guests cannot be nude in the saunas.

Q: Can I jump in the lake?

A: You are welcome to swim in the lake at Skyport Lodge! Please DO NOT attempt to access Lake Superior from the Sisu + Löyly property (includes the sauna platform and the house next door). There is public access to Lake Superior from the 2nd Street E dead end just outside the sauna driveway that many guests utilize to access the lake. There is no life guard on duty at any of our locations. Swimming is at guests own risk.

Q: What is your minimum age requirement?

A: 10 years old is the minimum age to be on the property at our downtown Grand Marais location. Kids of any age are welcome to participate at our seasonal locations at Skyport Lodge (floating sauna and land sauna) and at the North Shore Winery. Kids of any age must be under the direct supervision of parents and guardians at all times.

Q: Can a guest still join if they have a medical condition that prevents them from using a sauna?

A: Guests are welcome to be on site even if they cannot or do not want to use a sauna. The cost per guest is the same whether someone is using a sauna or not. Please consult a doctor if you are not sure if sauna is safe for you.

Q: Does the floating sauna sail?

A: No - the floating sauna is docked or moored at all times when customers are aboard per insurance and state regulations.
